Defending Montana Fishburne
By Khalil Amani
Chris Rock once joked about a father raising a daughter; “You got to keep her off the pole!” He was speaking of girls turning into strippers. But what happens when a father’s daughter gets on a real human pole—a dick—and does it for the cameras?
What happens when you’re the child of a famous person, trying to do you?
By now, most of us know who Montana Fishburne is—the daughter of A-list actor/celebrity Laurence Fishburne, the star of such movies as The Matrix, Apocalypse Now, What’s Love Got To Do With It, Boyz ‘N Da Hood, School Daze, The Color Purple, and Cornbread, Earl and Me—his first feature film.
(Montana Fishburne & daddy Laurence Fishburne)
Montana Fishburne is Laurence Fishburne’s daughter who recently came on the scene as a wannabe porn actress named “Chippy D,” who was introduced to us by porn actor Brian “B” Pumper.
Most of the blogs/bloggers are “goin’ in” on Montana. She is all the talk of hip-hop blogs far and wide. They are saying she is disgracing her daddy, Laurence. They say she is lower than Kat Stacks, the infamous fuck & tell-all
slut jump-off from the South.
How can the daughter of an A-List celebrity stoop this low? To do porn.
As the father of two daughters that have dabbled in the adult sex industry as strippers, I think I can relate to Laurence Fishburne’s dilemma. I think I can empathize with Mr. Fishburne. I think I can understand what a father goes through knowing that his little girl is all grown up and sexually active and a sexual creature.
My daughters are/were strippers/exotic dancers. Stripping is not porn, but some strippers go on to do porn. Some strippers engage in illicit activities, such as prostitution. Becoming a porn star is an occupational hazard of the stripper. This, I know! The lure of fast money, fame and fortune, through giving over one’s body to “the game” is a constant snare for a stripper, whose innocent intention is to make money and feed herself and family and/or pursue educational goals.
According to Montana Fishburne, daddy is livid over her decision to do porn. Reportedly, he said,“I’m not going to speak with you ’till you turn your life around.” “You embarrassed me.” “You used your last name. No one uses their real name in porn.” He went on to say that he wants nothing to do with her and her current profession—basically excommunicating her from the family for being in the porn industry.
Many have speculated about this father/daughter relationship, but from all accounts (including Montana’s) daddy Laurence was a loving father.
So is daddy Laurence right for distancing himself from his daughter because of her newfound occupation? I’m not so sure based on my own dealings with my stripper daughters.
Having a daughter in the adult sex industry isn’t the crime of the century! It isn’t the worst thing that a father could imagine for his daughter. There are many other things far worse—like being a straight-up prostitute, owned by a pimp or a dick-sucking crack-head or a heroin junkie or married to a man that’s beating the living shit out of your daughter, while fronting like they have the perfect marriage!
Every father wishes that his daughter grows up and marries the perfect man and has a wonderful career after college. Many of us wish this for our children, yet we, ourselves, have not done right by our parents. We are high school dropouts, but expect our children to be Rhode Scholars! We fucked over our parents and now, after we’ve grown up, expect that our children will turn out to be model citizens. (Karma)
In the curious case of Montana Fishburne, by all accounts, she came from a good household, had money at her disposal, graduated from high school and chose to pursue a career in the porn industry with the expected result of moving into mainstream. She cites Kim Kardashian as her model. Kim Kardashian’s sex tape with Ray J jumpstarted her “career” and has moved her into the mainstream, being the love interest of several professional athletes.
From sucking Ray J’s dick on camera, Kim Kardashian went from jump-off to mainstream TV’s “Keeping up with the Kardashian’s” to “Dancing with the Stars” to “Playboy” magazine to dating Heisman Trophy/Super Bowl champion Reggie Bush--and now Kanye West.
The common denominator between Montana and Kim is that their fathers were rich and famous/semi-famous. Kim’s dad was OJ Simpson’s good friend throughout his murder trial, if you remember. Kim’s stepdad is Olympic champion Bruce Jenner. The same model was applied by Paris Hilton, using a sex tape and her father’s empire (Hilton hotels) to launch her “career”—it’s the “Daddy-It’s-My-Pussy-Motif” to fame and fortune.
Laurence Fishburne’s problem is one of perceived disrespect, ungratefulness, shame, and dishonoring the family name—Fishburne.
Like the daughters of the aforementioned folk, Laurence needs to take a page from the parents of these children. What were the responses of Kim’s and Paris’s parents? Did they disown them? Did they make public statements when their children’s sex tapes hit the Internet? To my knowledge—no!
Paris Hilton’s father did not disown her for sucking dick on camera and neither did Kim Kardashian’s parents. They dealt with it and kept it moving. This is what Laurence Fishburne should do.
Laurence Fishburne’s reaction is natural, but it is based on “what will people think about me?” Fuck the people! And fuck your career! This is your daughter—however misguided you think she is! Stand by her and let her (alone) know of your disapproval and put on your poker face for the public. It ain’t our business.
At-the-end-of-the-day, Montana Fishburne will be all alright! When the smoke blows over and the shock wears off, she will still be your daughter Larry. Again, take it from someone who’s walked in your shoes on a small scale. Montana may or may not transition into the mainstream, but Laurence has enough money to keep her from whoring herself out.
This is just the beginning of a young girl’s life as an adult. It may be over-the-top, but she’ll land on her feet just fine. She is in search of her Raison d'être (Reason for being) and she will find it. All she needs is daddy to take this journey with her—to love her unconditionally—to never turn his back on her—and to believe that indeed, he raised her right and that she will find her way.
Nothing good can come from disowning a child. Just my opinion.
