Star & Poppy: YouTube’s Dynamic Duo Strikes Again!
By Khalil Amani
As a hip-hop writer and blogger, I’ve had the honor and privilege of mingling, meeting and schmoozing with hip-hop's brightest stars—from Andre 3000 to Kanye West to Common, Erykah Badu, Nore, Jay Z, Gunplay, Papoose, Mysonne, DJ Drama, Ray J, Birdman (Baby), Yelawolf, Waka Flocka, Wale, Bun B, etc., etc., etc. Furthermore, writing for iconic DJ Kay Slay’s magazine for 10 years—Straight Stuntin Magazine has afforded me the opportunity to meet rap celebrities. And yes! I’ve even met Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee! DJ Kay Slay brought me into his hip-hop industry circle—and, as you know, blessed me with the scoop on Afrika Bambaataa date-raping a dude and getting stabbed for his efforts.

Whomever writes the comprehensive history of hip-hop—I’m tallumbout the “Atlas Shrugged”—the “Moby Dick”—Edward Gibbon’s, “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,” Herodotus’s “The Histories”—whomever sets about the writing task of really taking us on a historical hip-hop journey will have to include the rise and fall of Afrika Bambaataa and mention Khalil Amani as the man responsible for setting in motion, the wheels of deconstruction of the “Godfather of Hip-Hop!” That is part of my claim to fame!
You know what’s liberating? When a person can freely tell their story and air their “dirty laundry” to the world before the world has a chance to go snooping in one’s closet and get their “Christopher Columbus” on—like they discovered some shit about you that you were trying to hide from the world. It’s a funny and curious thingy watching people’s reaction when they stumble upon your life and act like they’ve found gold. LOL. Such was the case when the so-called “Conscious Community” and the YouTube community found out about Khalil Amani and his government informant/cult days. It didn’t matter that two books—one by a Pulitzer Prize winning Journalist (Sydney P. Freedberg) and four national TV shows and numerous articles were written on Khalil Amani. Conscious Negroes dissected Khalil’s life as though they had dug it up themselves and wanted the world to know about the treasure-trove they’d found. Little did they know that they were 20 years late to the Khalil Amani show.
Such is the case of the quasi-new information on hip-hop radio personality, Charlamagne Tha God regarding a 17 year old case wherein a 15 year old girl was allegedly molested and Tha God took a plea to escape rape charges. Charlamagne has talked about what happened with that minor girl on several occasions. He’s never hid it! This is the misinformation being put out by the Dynamic Duo of YouTube—Batman Star aka Troi Torian and his flunky, Robin Poppy. Star & Poppy act like they’ve discovered YouTube gold—again—after the Afrika Bambaataa story. They are trying to make lightening strike twice with a similar tale of sexual abuse.
No mainstream news station—not even TMZ has picked up on the machinations that these two miscreants are trying to weave. Star & Poppy are using their platforms to publicly convict Charlamagne, even though the case has long been over and settled.
The rest of black YouTube is just reporting the story and waiting to see if something arises from this not-so-secretive revelation.
Back then, according to Charlamagne, they took a DNA blood sample. He said he freely went to the police when he found out what was going on. He did not go and “lawyer up.” His actions were not that of a man who raped a child and tried to hide it. And what court in America is going to settle for a lesser charge that only requires probation when a grown-ass man rapes a child? Let us not also forget that this fifteen year old girl, out of her own mouth wanted to testify against Charlamagne, but her mother would not permit it. If this girl was truly raped by Charlamagne and was willing to put on her big girl panties and testify against Charlamagne—what parent would let a rapist off with probation after violating their child? If the child wanted to go on the witness stand, why would her mother forbid her? It’s kind of late for mommy dearest to coddle her child and save her child from the trauma of reliving her rape.
Charlamagne, by all indications and court records is guilty of nothing more than giving this girl alcohol. That’s what he copped out to. The girl may very well have been raped, but it wasn’t Charlamagne who raped her! Not a shred of Charlamagne’s DNA was found on this child, but let Poppy tell it, his DNA was so heavily mixed in with others, who “ran a train” (had group sex) with the young girl that it was undetectable. LOL (Funny, but not funny, but definitely stupid!)
There are a few question that Star & Poppy owe the public. #1. Who contacted who? Did the young lady contact Star or did Star contact the young lady? #2. What’s the real motive behind this attack on Charlamagne? #3. Why is Poppy openly creating a false narrative by totally dismissing Charlamagne’s and the courts ruling? #4. What is the motive of the young lady?
Clearly, this whole story is contrived. It would be different had this story been a revelation like the Afrika Bambaataa story, but it isn’t. Charlamagne willfully talked about his past indiscretion. He did not hide his faux pas (misstep) in life for years like Bambaataa. Dare I say that Batman & Robin will ultimately take an “L” with this bullshit story.
Imagine that! The two people—Batman & Robin (Star & Poppy) who have said the most egregious things against children on these Internets exhibiting false outrage over children! Poppy can feign himself a child molestation victim advocate, but in these YouTube streets there’s a big fat *asterisk* next to his child advocacy for having said he’d lay “heavy dick” on two children. I don’t care what the context was! He said it! Remember when Poppy said I wanted to have sex with my mother? Yeah, context muthafucka! And Star wanting to piss on DJ Envy's child cancels out his pseudo outrage to protect children. Does this young woman know Star's past? An alleged child molested victim seeking help from a ex-coke-headed, hypothetical, once upon a time would-be child molester!
Star’s YouTube video with the young woman accusing Charlamagne fell flat today and Poppy's bloviating is without any substantive rigor. I pray that the young woman gets some healing, but going to Star on YouTube? This ain't that! Get some real healing sista! As the cop at the crime scene would say, “There’s nothing to see here folks! Move along!”
Hold ya head Charlamagne Tha God! Keep doing great work!
