Fail! …So You’re a G.G.G.? By Khalil Amani
If the word “faggot” means “weak”—if straight hip-hop heads use the word “faggot,” not to demean a gay person, but as a diss to someone’s manhood—to effeminize—if “faggot” is a rapper’s expression of contempt for another rapper’s lyrical prowess—if “faggot” means all these things then we should stop saying that a rapper is homophobic because he may use the word “faggot” in his rhymes.
If this is the case, may I suggest that we start allowing non-black (white) rappers to use the word “nigga” in their rhymes, because we all know that “nigga” is a “term of endearment” in hip-hop, right?”
What gives black people the right to redefine “faggot”—and use it freely without being labeled a homophobe, but not white people the right to redefine “nigger”—and use it freely and not be labeled a racist? I’m just sayin’…
Nigger and faggot are hurtful words! Any argument here? Both words offend two minority groups—blacks and gays.
I mean, really, what’s the problem? If black folk can use “historical gymnastics” to turn one of the most vile, wretched, and deplorable words (nigger) into a “term of endearment”—if hip-hop heads can take a word like “faggot,” which is quite offensive to a homosexual person, why can’t white people use the word “nigga” in their rhymes?
Blacks (rappers) can offend gays, but whites (rappers) can’t offend blacks? Do I smell a double-standard? Do I smell hypocrisy? The fuck?
If using the word “faggot” in a rap song were truly about dissing someone’s manhood and/or lyrical ability and no diss to gay people, why are there some gangsta rappers that like to “go in” on gays? If being gangsta is being tough, strong, violent and uber-male and being gay is soft, weak, peaceful and uber-female, it seems to me that there is a lot of bullying going on!
Take LA gangsta rapper 40 Glocc who’s gone on record and said such outlandish shit as, “I don’t like faggots. I don’t care if you a faggot. I don’t like you. I don’t like faggots! I don’t care if you a faggot or not! Or Chicago-based gangsta rapper Trick Trick (not to be confused with Trick Daddy) who, right before the release of his album (which, by-the-way, went double-wood) said, “Homosexuals are probably not gonna like this album… I don’t want your faggot money any goddamn way. He’s a fucking faggot so I’m lettin’ off my AK/Bust ‘em in his forehead/He ain’t worth lettin’ live/A man and man shouldn’t raise another man’s kids!”
These guys suffer from a condition called “G.G.G.”—Gangsters who “Go-in” on Gays. As weak and soft and effeminate and sweet as they claim gay people are—they save their most hateful venom—people who’ve never crossed them disrespectfully—people who aren’t responsible for their low status in life or their poverty-ridden condition or their lack of popularity in mainstream hip-hop circles. These are the people they lash out at! Gangstas who go in on gays! How gay is that? You’ve gotta be one weak motherfucker to target someone who you believe is physically weaker than you—gays! Grown-ass bullies!
And they do it with a straight face! Is it just me or does anyone else see the facade and charade perpetuated by gangsters against the weak?
You say gay people are weak and then you attack them? How gangsta is that?
Gangstas who Go-in on Gays is the new CB4! Fake! These guys are your modern-day Goliaths, fighting against a gay-boy David (gay people). Fail!
